What is the consultation process?
Patients are asked to call the office to set up an appointment with Dr. Hobgood. During that call, our staff will ask you to be as specific as you can about your questions and concerns. That will allow us to be more efficient in preparing for your visit. Patients will be asked to pay a consultation fee prior to that visit, but this is applied to surgical procedures that are performed within six months of the initial consultation. Patients can expect to spend about 45 minutes to an hour in our office during an initial consultation depending on your questions. Your understanding of our recommendations is absolutely paramount in helping you make a comfortable decision.
Are additional fees required if I want to schedule a follow up consultation after my first?
Patients are asked to pay only a single consultation fee. We invite you back as our guest for as many visits as necessary to help you arrive at a good surgical decision for you. Many times patients choose to bring a support person back during a second consultation visit to help them understand the recommendations from the physician. Additional consultations are $75 and will also be applied to to the surgical procedure.
What is a pre-operative visit?
After patients have decided on a surgical plan and have reserved a date, we schedule a pre-op visit. Ideally this visit will occur about a month prior to the planned surgical date to allow maximal patient preparation. During this pre-op visit, a complete set of professional photographs selected according to the surgical procedure is obtained. Patients are asked to review and sign consents for surgery and prescriptions are given. We also provide and review thoroughly the instructions for activity and care after your surgery. Ideally, when the day comes for surgery, our patients are over-prepared with all the medicines and supplies set up at home for recovery.
Where are surgeries performed?
In general, healthy patients are discharged to home after elective cosmetic facial surgery. Dr. Hobgood primarily operates at The Surgery Center of Gilbert located at the intersection of Greenfield and Guadalupe, as well as North Valley Surgery Center located just east of the 101-Pima Freeway on Raintree Drive. Most patients find their recovery more efficient in the comfort of their own home. Most surgeries are performed at The Surgery Center of Gilbert located at the intersection of Greenfield and Guadalupe Roads.
I may be interested in a surgical procedure of the body at the same time as my face. Can this be accomodated?
Absolutely. It is quite common to perform multiple surgical procedures during the same operation. Many times this will involve both a facial surgery and a body surgery. Dr. Hobgood operates in tandem with several exceptional body plastic surgeons in Phoenix, and we can help to arrange a consultation with these physicians if you would like.
Do I have to go to sleep for my procedure?
In some cases patients may choose whether or not they wish to be completely asleep during the procedure. Because of the many variables and options in facial surgery, we will have to discuss this with you on an individual basis depending on your goals, surgeries, and overall health.
Who provides anesthesia and how are the anesthesiologists involved?
We recommend the use of our partner, Anesthesia Resources, for patients who require general anesthesia during the case. You will meet your physician the day of your surgery, although they review the case and your history well in advance of your surgery. A physician will be at your side during the entire case insuring your comfort and safety. This partner group has negotiated charges with Dr. Hobgood and they will be in touch with you prior to your case to discuss and collect your anesthesia charges.
When will I be given a cost of the surgeries or procedures recommended?
During your initial consultation with Dr. Hobgood, you will receive a detailed summary of the fees associated with your surgery. It includes your surgeon’s fee to Dr. Hobgood, the anesthesiologist estimate, and the facility fee estimate. Of note, the fees quoted for anesthesiology and the facility are estimates only but are based on accurate information. The fees associated with both anesthesiology and the facility will be collected directly by those entities and are due before your surgery.
Does Dr. Hobgood provide financing for surgical procedures?
Dr. Hobgood has made a professional choice not to provide financing for surgical procedures. It is our hope that our patients are comfortable with and are able to afford the resources required for cosmetic surgery. Dr. Hobgood’s office does accept Visa and Mastercard, and we are committed to helping our patients become comfortable with all aspects of their surgical plan including handling the financial costs.
